Squease is a garment which enables you to apply deep pressure onto your upper body. This can help you to calm down or concentrate. It consists of a Hooded Top, a Deep Pressure Vest and inflation Controls. Occupational therapists have observed that Deep Pressure is relaxing and calming and is used with their clients as a way to calm anxious individuals and to aid in concentration and focus.
Squease applies Deep Pressure through the Deep Pressure vest. The Deep Pressure vest is zipped into the hooded top and can be inflated by the wearer using the inflation controls in the pocket of the hooded top. The Deep Pressure vest is adjustable to ensure a tight fit.
Deep Pressure (touch) is the type of surface pressure that is exerted in most types of firm touching, holding, stroking, or swaddling. Occupational therapists have observed that Deep Pressure is relaxing and calming and is used with their clients as a way to calm anxious individuals and to aid in concentration and focus. Dr Temple Grandin, a professor at Colorado State University with high-functioning autism has written extensively on the subject of Deep Pressure Touch Stimulation with particular reference to individuals with autism. She wrote, “Deep Pressure touch has been found to have beneficial effects in a variety of clinical settings. In anecdotal reports, deep touch pressure has been described to produce a calming effect in children with psychiatric disorders. It also has been used to reduce tactile defensiveness in children who cannot tolerate being touched.” In explaining this phenomenon Grandin, occupational therapists and others have noted that some individuals actively seek Deep Pressure to modulate their sensory input, which enables them to self-regulate their sensory system and change their response to the environment. People with autism have expressed to us that the sensation of pressure allows them to reset and refocus in the midst of a stressful episode.

Preliminary tests have provided positive results so far. We are currently working with respected organisations specialised in scientific research in the field of Autistic Spectrum Disorders in order to provide academically rigorous data.
Squease is designed for anyone over the age of 10. It may help but is not limited to people with ASD, ADHD or general Sensory Integration Disorders. Anyone is welcome to try the garment and a number of individuals without any sensory integrations issues have enjoyed wearing Squease.
Squease looks like a fashionable normal hoodie. On inflation there is very little movement so from the the outside one will not be able to see whether the deep pressure vest is inflated or not. Only on inflation and deflation there is a little hiss to be heard from the sound insulated inflator unit. It is fairly quiet and is not likely to get noticed in anything but a completely silent environment.
We are very pleased to announce that Squease garments are now available to purchase. We will work on expanding the product line with more sizes and tops.
